Juan Pablo's Journey:

From Darkness to Guiding Light

Juan Pablo, a 12-year-old boy, was rescued by brave authorities from a criminal group that exploited vulnerable children in forced begging. These ruthless individuals brutally beat those who didn't meet their daily quotas. When Juan Pablo first arrived at the shelter, he was haunted by constant nightmares. He’d dream of his candies breaking, terrified he wouldn’t be able to sell them and would face another beating.

At our shelters, children begin to reclaim their voices and futures by writing their new stories on blank pages. We call this "The Book of Dreams." Here, they tentatively sketch out their aspirations, their deepest desires to dream again after the profound impact of trauma. In Juan Pablo's "Book of Dreams," he bravely wrote of his longing to become a pastor.

Today, Juan Pablo's story doesn't end in fear; it is a testament to the power of transformation. He is already diligently pursuing that dream, studying at a biblical institute. He balances his work with his studies, his deepest desire to help other vulnerable people suffering from human enslavement, just as he did. Remarkably, his own family, who sadly allowed his exploitation, is now being transformed by the love and grace he embodies.
